More than 15,000 people have joined the UK Labour party in the 24 hours since Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader, the party said.

UK Labour’s new leader is a stalwart of the party’s left-wing, an anti-war campaigner and serial Commons rebel who will be as surprised as anyone else to find himself thrust into the role.

Veteran left-winger Jeremy Corbyn has won the leadership of the UK Labour Party by a landslide, taking almost 60% of more than 400,000 votes cast.
