Pro-government Syrian fighters have entered the northern Kurdish enclave of Afrin, where Turkish troops have been on the offensive for a month.

Turkey has escalated its offensive against Kurdish fighters in northern Syria, pounding them with air strikes and artillery, and complicating the battle against the Islamic State (IS) group by Ankara and Washington, both Nato allies.
