RTÉ has refused to say who will fill the slot left vacant on 2FM after Ryan Tubridy rejoins Radio 1 to present a new morning programme.

Women are pulling in the listeners on RTÉ Radio 1, 2FM is snapping at the heels of main rival Today FM, and Newstalk’s Pat Kenny has lost 8,000 listeners since last April.

RTÉ has once again seen significant falls in year-on-year audience figures, with tens of thousands of listeners tuning out in comparison to 12 months ago.

RTÉ radio remains the dominant player on the Irish airwaves, with more than half of all adults tuning into the station every week.

The battle of the airwaves between Pat Kenny and Seán O’Rourke produced no real winners or losers in the red-hot competition for mid-morning radio audiences, according to the latest JNLR figures.
