Iarnród Éireann has awarded a contract to Rolls-Royce to retrofit new gear transmissions to a 3-carriage Intercity train, to assess fuel and emission savings from the new system.

150 journeys are being disrupted at a loss of earnings of €600,000 and a further fine of €300,000 to the company.
