Garda sergeants and inspectors are set to refuse to work an extra 30 hours a year from January 1.

The head of one of country's secondary teaching unions has said that they have heard nothing about some payments to teachers being withheld if their unions reject the Lansdowne Road Agreement.

Public-sector workers could be in line to gain an average of €800 or more each as part of the Government's reversal of pay cuts, it has been reported.

Secondary teachers are to seek a full restoration of pay, as guaranteed in the Haddington Road Agreement.
