Fine Gael has confirmed the resignation of one of its councillors, Frank McBrearty, just two months after he joined the party and one week after the local elections.

Waterford and Donegal politicians Paudie Coffey and Frank McBrearty jnr both shared emotional tributes on Facebook following the news that they had not been re-elected following the count.
