Despite having to miss a number of recent races due to illness, Sean Tobin showed he is getting back into top form with an easy victory at the Aviva/Munster Schools Cross-Country at the WIT complex on the outskirts of Waterford city yesterday.

DERVAL O’ROURKE has withdrawn from next weekend’s Woodies DIY All-Ireland indoor championships at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast but her coach, Sean Cahill, insists there is no need for concern.

MICHAEL CARMODY (Castletroy College, Limerick) led all the way to win the senior boys title at the Munster Schools Cross-Country Championships at Tramore Racecourse yesterday, when the lack of teacher cover due to the cutbacks was reflected in much smaller entries.

DAVID McCARTHY (St. Augustine’s, Dungarvan) will defend his 800m title and attempt a double-up at 1,500m at the KitKat Munster Schools track and field championships at the UL Track in Plassey tomorrow.
