Cork Constitution are Ulster Bank League 1A champions for the first time in seven years after avenging last season’s narrow loss to Clontarf in a gripping finale at a sun-kissed Aviva Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The death has occurred of Sean McNamara, one of the most respected prop forwards in Munster rugby for more than a decade immediately after World War II and who then went on to coach Thomond during the most successful years of the Limerick club.

Tomorrow evening Waterford or Tipperary will send a captain forward to raise the Munster Hurling Cup, assuming there is no draw.
