John Joe Nevin has won a silver medal in the bantamweight boxing at the Olympics.

Michael Conlan has been singled out as a possible Olympic medallist since he qualified at the world championships last year and he got his Olympic campaign off to a flyer with a very impressive and well executed 19-8 victory over Duke Mikah (Ghana) in a lively last 16 flyweight bout at the ExCel last night.

John Joe Nevin stands one more win from a guaranteed Olympic medal after a 15-10 win over Kanat Abutalipov at ExCeL today – but before his next bout Nevin has more pressing concerns in the Olympic Village.

Adam Nolan maintained the momentum at the ExCel last night when he outpointed Carlos Sanchez (Ecuador) 14-8 to get his Olympic experience off to a perfect start.
