Lee Westwood overcame a double bogey to regain the outright lead when golf’s richest event, the £4.5million Players Championship in Florida, resumed briefly today.

Ernie Els was the luckiest man at Sawgrass today after it was decided that the second round of the €6.5m Players Championship, golf’s richest event, would start all over again.

In keeping with an event which in time wants to be considered one of golf’s majors, the Players Championship has never in its 31-year history been decided over anything less than four rounds.
