English amateur Gary Boyd upstaged a host of professionals as he surged into second place after the third round of stage two of the European Tour’s qualifying school.

MICHAEL HOEY broke the course record with a flawless eight-under-par 63 in the first round of the European Tour School stage one qualifier at Carden Park, Cheshire, yesterday.
