The father of a man killed in the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown has hanged himself after two decades of failed attempts to seek government redress.

Hong Kong police seized a second statue dedicated to victims of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown in what critics called an attack on freedom of expression in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory.

Nearly one third of journalists now serving time in prisons around the world published their work on the internet, the second-largest category behind print journalists, the US committee to protect journalists said today.
