New applicants for seaweed harvesting licences have been told that the Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government cannot license any new seaweed harvesting in an area where there is an existing right to harvest seaweed.

The Minister for State for Housing and Urban Development, Damien English has trained his sights on one local authority he has deemed not doing enough to help solve the country’s housing crisis.

A €28m investment is being announced in 21 science projects.
