The battle to extend Cork City Council’s boundary is still not over as the county council has written to Oireachtas members urging them to ensure it retains the Blarney/Tower area.

Fears have been raised that recommendations by the Local Electoral Boundary Commission for redrawing municipal district council areas in Co Cork will split communities and remove some from their natural political hinterlands.

The Local Electoral Boundary Commission has recommended the creation of two more municipal district councils in Co Cork and has redrawn a number of them ahead of the expansion of the city boundary.
