Revealed: These luxury hotels in Kerry and Mayo have been awarded two Michelin Keys each

Two more Irish hotels have been awarded Michelin Keys in a nod to their “heartfelt hospitality”.

The Michelin Keys are similar to the famous Michelin Stars handed out to top restaurants, with hotels and resorts judged by the anonymous Michelin Guide’s inspection team on their accommodation experiences.

Each hotel awarded a Michelin Key is selected based on five criteria: an open door to the destination, architectural excellence, individuality, quality of service, and value for money.

This year, hotels from Munster and Connacht have been recognised for their excellent service, earning two Keys each.

In Kerry, the Park Hotel Kenmare earned two Keys for blending “timeless elegance with modern wellness”. Reviewers complimented the hotel’s facilities, including its fine dining restaurant.

“Expect plush drawing rooms, a serene spa and, as well as its own cinema, front-row seats to some of Ireland’s most breathtaking landscapes. Food and drink provisions come in the form of elegant Landline, where Irish produce takes the lead.”

Previously run by hotelier brothers John and Francis Brennan, the hotel was bought by Bryan and Tara Meehan in 2023 and has seen their influence in the areas of food and art.

“Dining in the Landline is such a pleasure. It’s a beautiful room designed with wonderful natural light, curving banquettes and an incredible Sean Scully art collection and feels really special, whether for breakfast or dinner,” our reviewer said earlier this year.

Following the ceremony, general manager Grace O’Connor said: “We are deeply honoured. This award reflects our team’s passion for hospitality and the uniquely Irish sense of belonging that defines Park Hotel Kenmare.”

Described by the Michelin Guide as “the ultimate Irish fairytale escape”, 800-year-old Ashford Castle, in Cong, Co Mayo is also recognised with two Keys for its “opulent interiors, manicured grounds and a rich sense of history – not to mention the impressive George V dining room hung with Waterford chandeliers”.

In our review, the Hotel Examiner echoed the fairytale sentiment and said Ashford Castle is “striking the perfect balance between friendly and professional, this is the pinnacle of Irish hospitality.”

The two destinations join the 14 Irish hotels which received at least one Key last year during the inaugural ceremony. These include Adare Manor and Ballyfin Demesne, which each earned three Keys in 2024.
