Deal of the week
Bad weather at home is good news for travel companies, and lowcostholidays are one to benefit, albeit on the back of decent offers for family groups. The company has a €1,469 deal for a week in Majorca for two adults and two children this month, but keep the luggage light because airline baggage charges are not included. Further information from www.lowcostholidays.ie.
Tour America has gone sub-€500 with several winter offers to the USA this winter. New York and Washington are on offer for a couple of nights inclusive from €479, and those in search of the sun, or at least a bit of warmth, could factor in either Las Vegas or Orlando for in and around the same price. Details from www.touramerica.ie, or call 01-8173500, or 021-2429555.
Most people love to attend a festival during the summer, but some events can be over-priced and over-hyped. The Stockholm Culture Festival (Aug 14 to 19) is not, apparently, one of those. This year’s theme revolves around Swedish author August Strindberg and most of the action is free. Flights from Dublin with SAS and details of the festival are on www.kulturfestivalen.stockholm.se/
Turkey is being flagged as the good value destination this year, with Thomas Cook named as the exclusive Irish operator to the five-star Gold Citycomplex in Mahmutlar near Alanya, offering special introductory packages from Dublin from €1,579 per family. To get details of what’s on offer, ring TC on 01-5140336 or log onto www.thomascookcruise.ie.
THE Travel Department has a luxury Cork/Kerry tour departing from Dublin on Jul 22, with clients spending a couple of nights in both counties, but taking in sights in Kilkenny and Limerick on the way down and back. This inclusive tour costs €429. Details on www.thetraveldepartment.ie
