Biking in the Burren

THOSE into fitness and scenery can combine both by taking part in a cycling event at the Burren in County Clare on Saturday next (June 19).

The An Post Cycle Series is being promoted to encourage people of all shapes, sizes and abilities to get the bike out of the garage and jump onto the saddle.

Last month, the first event got underway in Sligo, with over 1,400 cyclists taking part. In the Tour de Burren, there are options of the 10 kilometre Aillwee Cave Family Loop, the 60km Corkscrew Challenge or the serious matter of taking on the 160km ‘Burning Burren’.

One might even come across legendary Irish cyclist Sean Kelly – this year’s Cycle Series Ambassador. Sean took part in last month’s event and will also be taking a leisurely cycle around the Clare route.
