Irish comedian Joanne McNally received a standing ovation as she made her US TV debut this week.

The 43-year-old appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and had the audience in stitches with her stand-up routine about relationships, fertility, and the realities of life as a single woman over 40.

“My name is Joanne McNally. I’m from Ireland,” she said, her introduction met with loud cheers from the audience.

She went on to talk about feeling empowered in her 40s, despite how some men react to women in their 40s.

Touching on dating, she described how “jarring” it is to be dumped by someone significantly less attractive.

She spoke about being an indoor gal, and her love of lying in bed covered in her own chip dust, watching Koreans sanitise their apartments on TikTok.

She said that when on a date, if asked the question, do you like sports? She replies: 'I cycle, menstrually, and that’s enough for me'.

She also touched on her love of wine and her inability to keep a secret — something she has been putting to the test on Celebrity Traitors UK.

McNally received a standing ovation from the studio crowd and praise from host Jimmy Fallon following her live set.

"Come on! What are you talking about? That’s awesome! That’s how you do it! Look at that – standing O,” Fallon said.

Her set was also met with praise from fellow comedians and fans back home.

"Unreal. One of the hardest gigs in the world. Made it look easy," Jarlath Regan posted underneath the show's Instagram reel of McNally's appearance.

"SUPERSTAR. The entire island of Ireland is SO PROUD of our girl," another user said.

"Beyond happy for you, after years of relentless graft you deserve every ounce of success and happiness coming your way," another penned.

McNally appeared on the show ahead of filming her upcoming Netflix comedy special, Pinotphile, at New York's Town Hall on November 7, as part of the New York Comedy Festival.

McNally co-hosts the award-winning podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me with Vogue Williams, which they have taken on tour across the world, performing sold-out live shows.

McNally is currently appearing on BBC's Celebrity Traitors and is due to perform her Pinotphile show to Dublin's 3Arena for four nights in December.
