As much as we might not yet feel ready to see twinkling lights and mistletoe decorating streets and shops across the country, it is that time of year again.

Brands are unwrapping their Christmas adverts for 2025, and this year, there are some tear-jerkers.

From emotional scenes to celebrity appearances, we have rounded up some of the most popular Christmas adverts so far this year, from retailers, supermarkets, and global brands alike.

John Lewis

John Lewis’ two-minute tear-jerker leans into 90s nostalgia, emotional storytelling, and a new retail strategy built around music.

This year’s message from the high street retailer is “If you can’t find the words, find the gift.”

For the second year in a row, the John Lewis ad, created by the agency Saatchi & Saatchi, has chosen not to feature children and characters and instead highlights the power of family relationships.

This year’s ad focuses on a middle-aged dad who is transported back to his clubbing days after receiving a vinyl record from his son.

It shows the dad on the dancefloor, dreaming of seeing his teenage son across the room, then thinking back to embracing him as a small child and a baby before it cuts back to the living room and the pair hug as the music reignites their bond.

The 1990s club classic Where Love Lives by Alison Limerick provides the soundtrack, which segues into a slower new version by the British singer and producer Labrinth.

The track was originally released in 1990 by London singer Alison Limerick and was widely played in discerning clubs such as Sir Henry's in Cork, before it hit the charts the following year and gradually attained a status as one of the greatest dance tunes of all time.

Previously, Limerick had also done the backing vocals on the Style Council’s 1984 smash hit, Shout To The Top.

John Lewis will be selling a limited edition vinyl record featuring both versions of the track via the Rough Trade record shop sections.

Aldi

Aldi recently dropped its heartwarming advert, which features the much-anticipated return of its iconic Christmas character, Kevin the Carrot.

As he celebrates his 10th anniversary, Kevin has returned to screens for the festive campaign with a new, romantic twist which will see him embark on a romantic, film-inspired quest, culminating in a momentous proposal to his beloved Katie the Carrot.

The ad also features Kevin and Katie’s dog Caulidog, in a festive, snowy scene, excitedly waiting outside Katie’s house for the moment Kevin asks Katie the big question.

Eason

This year, Eason is tapping into its rich heritage, celebrating its iconic status as the home of stories for Irish families since 1888.

This year's Eason Christmas advert encourages people to rediscover the magic of storytelling and human connection with a heartwarming new campaign.

This year, Eason is tapping into its rich heritage, celebrating its iconic status as the home of stories for Irish families since 1888, reminding us of those unique, nostalgic memories of Christmas past, the frosty air on O’Connell Street, the gleaming iconic clock, and the festive buzz of late-night shopping in Dublin.

The Inspire Someone this Christmas campaign captures how books aren't just gifts, but bridges for human connection.

The advert, directed by Peter O’Brien, tells the touching tale of a grandad and granddaughter, whose story subtly but powerfully reminds us of Eason’s enduring message to Be Inspired by the power of shared narratives.

Argos

Actor and director Simon Bird joins Argos’s Christmas campaign which shows that there is more to the store than just toys.

The humorous advert shows a nervous Bird, who believes he has become Connie and Trevor’s latest target, following orders before he is taken to a warehouse of Christmas trees and Argos household products.

Directed by David Kerr and created by T&P, the ad follows Bird’s last-minute shopping spree, which leads him to believe that “there is more to Argos.”

Boots

The Gift Happily Ever After campaign from Boots reimagines a fairytale world for modern shoppers.

Puss, who stars in the advert, goes on a quest to find beauty gifts for his friends before the Snow Queen’s Ball.

The ad, which celebrates the joy of finding the ideal present, shows Puss gifting fairytale characters Rapunzel, Snow White, and Repunzel with some thoughtful gifts, as well as some handwarmers for the Snow Queen, before dancing the night away at the ball.

Lidl

Lidl’s 2025 Christmas advert, created by Accenture Song, asks the question: “Why do we love Christmas so much?” Narrated by a young girl and set to Wouldn’t It Be Nice by The Beach Boys, the heartwarming ad celebrates kindness, connection and generosity at Christmas, ending with a call to donate to Lidl’s annual toy bank.

The ad shows the young girl concluding that we all love Christmas so much because “we we all want to make each other feel more loved” and suggests that every day has “a lot to learn from Christmas”.

M&S Food

M&S Food’s Christmas advert sees Dawn French return as the fairy, joined by chef Tom Kerridge in a playful 90-second ad titled Traffic Jamming.

Singing Driving Home for Christmas, French turns a gridlocked road of traffic into a festive feast inside an M&S truck, celebrating the store’s signature seasonal treats.

And of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without the classics, such as Coca Cola’s Holidays are Coming advert, which sees the return of the red truck and the timeless Guinness advert, which has comfort and nostalgia written all over it, featuring The Custom House in Dublin, Shandon Bells in Cork, J O Connel’s pub in Meath and Claddagh in Galway.
