This event has since been cancelled due to the impact of Hurricane Erin.

Clean Coasts has said they understand that this change may be disappointing, but that they believe it is the most responsible course of action given the forecasted conditions. People will be informed at a later date if the event is rescheduled.

People will have the chance to join a free surfing lesson at a well-known West Cork beach this month while doing their bit to help keep our coasts clean and protect marine life.

Clean Coasts and Fáilte Ireland are inviting people to take part in the free surfing taster as part of their #2MinuteBeachClean Summer Surf Club.

Whether you are a total beginner or just looking for a new way to enjoy the sea, the fun and exclusive session offers an opportunity for people to try out the water sport.

The taster session will take place in Barleycove in West Cork on August 26 at 12pm and will be led by experienced instructors from Barley Cove Surf Camp.

The free surfing tasters will also be taking place at Curracloe Beach in Wexford on Friday, August 22 at 2pm, at Bunmahon Beach in Waterford on Tuesday, August 26 at 3.30pm and at Lahinch Beach in Clare on Thursday, August 28 at 5pm.

Coastal communities manager at Clean Coasts, Bronagh Moore, said: “Spending time in the water or by the sea is a fantastic way to connect with nature and enjoy the benefits that it brings.

“It’s so important to remember to give back by doing something simple like a #2minutebeachclean, which not only creates a nicer environment for everyone using the beach but also protects marine life in it too.”

Clean Coasts development officer for Cork, Elaine Doyle, will be present on the day to lead the clean-up and chat about how small actions, repeated often and by many, can lead to powerful change, while also keeping the beach a place of joy, freedom, and natural beauty, and the perfect place to start something new.

Refreshments will be available after the sessions. Those interested in taking part can book a free taster by clicking here.
