“I am originally from South Africa and I have lived in Ireland since 2019. I have always enjoyed interacting with people of all ages as we all have a story to share.

“When I was 20 years old, I cared for my godmother, who had cancer. It was a life-defining [experience] for me. Helping others, no matter how small the task, can have a huge impact on that person. I believe in paying it forward by showing others kindness, empathy, and a listening ear.

“As an HSE quit smoking adviser, I speak with people of all ages who are trying to quit smoking. Some have never tried to quit before. I explain the support involved, answering any questions the client may have regarding the nicotine replacement therapy and addressing any concerns or fears.

"Some people have a fear about quitting, so giving them a safe space to be honest without any judgement is really important.

“My job is purpose-driven, and it is a pleasure knowing that the work we do on the HSE quit smoking team can have such a positive impact on someone’s life.

“I work with a wonderful team of stop smoking advisers, who are dedicated to supporting our clients on their journey. Being a stop-smoking adviser isn’t just a job; it’s a commitment to improving lives, empowering individuals to take control of their health, and helping them achieve their goals.

“You can either sign up through Quit.ie, talk to your GP and they refer you to us, or you can call us. For those who do not wish to engage with the telephone or face-to-face support, there is online support and you can receive either an email or SMS (depending on what your preference is).

“It is never too late to take control of your health and well-being and we look forward to helping you reach your goal of being smoke free.

“Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and close friends. To me, making memories with the people you love is important.

“I enjoy walking to de-stress and clear my mind. I also dabble in baking and trying new recipes — much to my family’s dismay.”
