It’s time to get geansai-ready — here are nine jumper styles for this season
Annmarie O'Connor: "Investing in thermal fabrics like wool, Alpaca or Mohair is always good advice but in some instances, can prove high maintenance (I’m looking at you, cashmere) both in upkeep and outlay."
One day the heating is on, the next we’re opening windows. It’s a tricky one to call.
We’ve all been there: 45% Angora: 55% recriminations, simply because the day started off a bit chilly.
Thankfully, these ‘will it, won’t it’ shenanigans are short-lived, which can only mean one thing. It’s time to get geansai-ready.
Jonesing for a new jumper? First ask yourself, “What’s my ‘why’?” Are you looking for a canny cost-per-wear, something to dial down your dressier wardrobe pieces?
Maybe just a solid all-rounder? Investing in thermal fabrics like wool, Alpaca or Mohair is always good advice but in some instances, can prove high maintenance (I’m looking at you, cashmere) both in upkeep and outlay.
That said, should the terms ‘Polar vortex’ or ‘Arctic blast’ be used, know you’re in good hands.
When it comes to the ‘what’ to your ‘why’, a crew neck jumper is a classic. Look to serotonin-soaked colours (sapphire wins big), 3-D textures like Aran patterns or a brushed handle for visual interest.
Speaking of which, sweater vests are ideal for adding that elusive layering piece. Wear over t-shirts, a knitted underpinning or bare-armed—your call.
On the flip side, the fitted roll neck continues to dominate, however divisive. Too restrictive for your taste? Try the fashion-forward Scandi circle collar or a preppy polo iteration.
Better yet, indulge your inner child with this season’s novelty jumpers, which run the gamut from landscapes and ski runs to kittens and flowers. Irony not included.
Just promise not to wear it out dancing. The Sultans of Ping can fill you in.
