Making waves: Ten ways to wear ruffles

Did you hear the rumour? Quiet luxury is taking a career break.

This season, stealth wealth staples are rescinding their trend status to an emerging competitor. Say ‘hello’ (again) to ruffles.

You’ve probably already met. Maybe, like me, you never really got acquainted, preferring to stay in your style lane. I hear you: frills and spills are not really for me.

That said, I’m willing to give whimsy a go and take one for the team. The question is: ‘How much is too much?’

Not one for too much fuss, I’m leaning towards And Tate’s measured bow ruffle blouse—a perfect addition to summer work trousers when paired with kitten heels or classic loafers.

Speaking of which, & Other Stories’ floral appliqué leather mules are a canny hack to add interest in simple separates.

Stepping out of my comfort zone and into Sister Jane’s Dream collection, the brand’s pink froufrou top looks lovely with faded wide-leg jeans and ballet flats.

On the other hand, River Island’s placement ruffle tank offers the right amount of flounce while pairing with almost anything in your wardrobe.

Although the sheer audacity of chiffon, organza and tulle may currently dominate the fashion landscape, too much skin is a big ‘no’ for me.

That’s why I find Needle & Thread’s maxi-length occasion dresses appealing.

Considered coverage means I can experiment with a different aesthetic while remaining true to mine. Plus, the unapologetic yellow is right up my alley.
