Bright and breezy: Nine ways to wear summer dresses

It’s time to swap weather warnings and storm alerts for outdoor parties, racing festivals and destination weddings.

Finally, summer has arrived. It’s time to swap weather warnings and storm alerts for outdoor parties, racing festivals and destination weddings.

And the best part? Finding that iconic dress — the one-and-done wonder that magically transforms any event into a special occasion.

First things first: mood determines everything. This season’s predilection for femininity runs the gamut from balletcore reverie to elegant maxi lengths and forever floral prints. No pre-determined aesthetic here; it’s more of a ‘choose your adventure’.

For something frothier, Sister Jane’s whimsical Dream label parlays the tulle trend (fully lined!) in trending baby blue. COS also proves that sheer can be chic, thanks to elegant plissé set against a backdrop of Bauhaus rigour.

As for prints, lean in or go lean — your choice. Try a pair of bright kick flares with Essentiel Antwerp’s notice-me shift (check out that stand-up collar) or make like Stine Goya with abstract panelling for a clean, minimal look.

All eyes are on Farm Rio’s serotonin-dipped designs this season, while Very Ireland’s lurex gúna is a masterclass in working with stripes to enhance the silhouette. Nice price too.

Should running late be more your style; H&M’s appliqued rosette dress saves time accessorising. Just add slingbacks and a soft clutch and you’re good to go.

Personally, COS has my attention — its high-neck midi giving retro Palm Springs vibes. Now, pass me my Martini.
