Tried and tested: What it’s like to get a LuminFusion facial at Mahon Point's treatment room

What is a Luminfusion treatment?

Looking for uber-glowy skin with no downtime? Step away from microneedling and consider NanoInfusion instead.

LuminFusion is an advanced, 60-minute skin treatment from Dermalogica that combines a targeted eye peel plus retinol and hydroxy acid face peel to resurface and renew your skin.

On top of this, NanoInfusion technology infuses active ingredients into the skin and LED red light therapy helps to visibly restore skin luminosity and reduce signs of skin ageing. These results are usually gained with microneedling but this method has immediate results with no downtime.

The treatment is based around ‘exfoliation stacking’, which uses multiple exfoliation formulas for advanced skin resurfacing and instantly smoother, glowing skin. The NanoInfusion technology uses a Dermalogica Pro Pen device which is a professional-only microneedling and NanoInfusion device in one, to deeply infuse active ingredients in the skin.

On top of this, LED red light therapy will restore skin luminosity and support the skin’s repair process, helping to smooth skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Where can I get it?

LuminFusion is suitable for all skin types and available nationwide at Dermalogica stores and authorised Dermalogica partners.

A 60-minute treatment costs €150 and can be boked on dermalogica.ie.

I received my treatment from Dermalogica at Frasers, Mahon Point with the wonderful skin therapist Louise, who led me through the store to a concealed room where I could relax and be pampered for an hour, only a few feet and yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of shoppers.

What did it feel like?

Nestled under a weighted blanket, the hour-long treatment slipped by quickly. Louise carefully explained each step ahead of the treatment and I was able to relax under her car as she double-cleansed my skin, exfoliated and applied undereye peeling patches and more before using the Pro Pen to help the products penetrate deeper.

While it is a similar technology to microneedling, it is far less invasive and instead felt like gentle vibrations on my skin. I relaxed under the LED lighting for a few minutes before the final steps of the treatment.

What were the results?

I walked out of the treatment room with the glowiest glass skin imaginable, a walking glazed donut. The resulting finish on my skin looked spectacular in the softly-lit treatment room but under the brighter lights of the store, I snuck a look in one of the mirrors there and was impressed. By the second day, the glow hadn’t dimmed and my skin still felt super soft and smooth.

On top of this, the fine lines on my face were greatly reduced. This is definitely worth booking in for ahead of a big event for a flawless glow.

Louise advised me to use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser to avoid irritating my skin while it recovered from the rounds of exfoliation, suggested I avoid makeup for a day and recommended avoiding direct sun for a few days and using an SPF when out and about to avid hyperpigmentation.

Thankfully, my soft, even skin post-treatment meant I had no need for makeup anyway — I was ready to rock the bare-faced glow.
