Lynx launch new fine fragrance collection — here's what to expect
The Lynx Fine Fragrance collection.
For many Irish people, one whiff of Lynx is enough to transport us back to our youth and the years of teenage discos.
Lynx gift sets are commonplace under the Christmas tree of most households and the iconic Lynx Africa has become many young men’s introduction to the world of fragrance.
Since its launch over 40 years ago, the brand’s scents have managed to make an impact on multiple generations.
Lynx Africa alone has been worn by 85% of Irish men and has sold enough products to fill Dublin’s convention centre over 54,000 times.
However, 2024 marks a new chapter for the popular brand as it aims to redefine fragrance for men with the brand-new Fine Fragrance collection.
The new collection was launched at London’s Mandrake Hotel with renowned fragrance expert, Ann Gottlieb who led the development of the collection.
Featuring sandalwood, mint, orange and lavender, the new collection aims to provide premium scents infused with essential oils at an affordable price.
Ann Gottlieb started out in the world of fragrance with none other than Estee Lauder as her mentor before going on to create her own company in 1983. Since then, she has developed fragrances for some of the biggest brands such as Marc Jacobs, Elizabeth Arden and Carolina Herrera. She is behind some of Calvin Klein and Christian Dior’s best-selling fragrances.
Speaking at the launch, Gottlieb said that the new generation is “incredibly sensorial” and noted how vanilla is “exploding” in popularity at the moment, due to its almost “addictive” scent.
The goal of the new collection, she said, is to deliver “casual, fun fragrances” that can be worn every day.
“We are excited to bring you this because it represents a new message and a new voice for the brand,” she added.
Each of the five scents in the new Lynx collection have been crafted to smell like a cologne. They include Black Vanilla (Orange and Sandalwood Scent), Blue Lavender (Mint and Amber Scent), Copper Santal (Brown Sugar and Pepper Scent), Emerald Sage (White Geranium and Cedar Scent) and Aqua Bergamot (Sage and Juniper Scent).
According to research carried out by Blue Yonder, 74% of 220 US men aged 16-24 preferred Lynx (Axe in US) Black Vanilla fragrance compared to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille fragrance.
During a fragrance workshops, we tested some of the scents used in the collection such as samples of juniper, sage, vanilla, sandalwood and bergamot. Individually, some of the scents were extremely potent while others were more subtle.
When combined within a fragrance, the scents complement one another and the finished product certainly does not smell like it should be coming from an aerosol can.
The goal of creating a fine fragrance — it was agreed — had been achieved with the Black Vanilla scent standing out as an all-round favourite.
