Annmarie O'Connor: Shimmer into 2024 with these metallic looks
If metallics offer a more flexible approach to festivities, you’ll want to check these out
When it comes to New Year’s finery, nothing quite beats the mettle of metallics. Although grand celebrations demand players like silver and gold, the taste for quiet luxury has seen platinum, pewter and bronze rise to the occasion. Equally, time-honoured textures like sequin, mesh and lamé now hold space with coated denim, matte foil and painted knits – freshman trends that offer low-key lustre. If metallics offer a more flexible approach to festivities, you’ll want to check these out.
Irish brand Manley’s two-tone ‘Blair’ skirt packs a punch with contrasting gold and silver leather panels set in a classic A-line silhouette. Wear with a classic white shirt and kitten heels or their co-ordinating leather t-shirt and sneakers.
Crafted from a woven metallic fabric, London label Sister Jane’s ‘Starlight’ midi dress is also meant for the spotlight. Adorned with statement puff sleeves, its removable bow cuffs add (or subtract) a touch of whimsy while staying true to its dreamy DNA.
For something more considered, try a metallic button-down from M&S. Although strict tailoring can be a killjoy; an ombré sequin finish gives the right amount of gadfly.
Not to mention, a pair of silver Mary Janes will ensure you can dance the night away. Pair with a pearlescent camisole dress from Massimo Dutti and a mohair cardigan for comfy girl kudos. Better yet, opt for Stine Goya’s bronze sequin ‘Markus’ trousers which feature a coveted elasticated waistband.
As for me? I’ll be mixing my metals. Expect a gold painted cardigan and Prada-esque pointy heels from Zara with a bronze slip skirt from M&S. Oh, and champagne! That counts as a metallic, right?
