On the red carpet: Saoirse Ronan, Margot Robbie, Allison Williams & Rachel Weisz

Saoirse Ronan was radiant in Rodarte at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York. I love this more-is-more dress from tulle hem to epaulettes, even the flowers and frills don’t look too much.

Here it is: proof positive that Margot Robbie looks good in a bin-bag. This Saint Laurent dress is sequinned crepe but it photographs like a belted refuse-sack. Between it and Rita Ora’s EMA towelling robe it seems Will Ferrell’s Zoolander character is alive and styling.

Allison Williams chose Spring 2018 Giambattista Valli Couture for the same event. A sheer veil with petals and leaves over a white gown is beautiful and dramatic any time of year.

Rachel Weisz dazzled in Saint Laurent on the same night. I like the structured shoulders on an otherwise draped dress, very Working Girl glam. Dark sequins leave room for a more adventurous shoe but black courts are always chic.
