How to wear it: Your Autumn/Winter style edit

It’s the new season made simple. Fashion editor Annmarie O’Connor reveals her six top Autumn/Winter trends – and how to wear them.

How to wear it: Your Autumn/Winter style edit

MICHELIN STAR

The redux of down continues to rise as puffer coats maintain their trend dominance. From oversized silhouettes to quieter quilting, nothing quite beats the cosy charm of a duvet day.

MODERN ARCHITECTURE

Get ready to take a lesson in fashion math as clean lines and graphic proportions multiply in robust colours. No more normcore blending; it’s all about looking sharp!

CHECK MATE

Checks dominate the print landscape from traditional Prince of Wales and tweed fabrics to dogtooth and punky plaid. Expect classic and reimagined interpretations with placement ruffles, corsetry details and asymmetric cuts.

RED ALERT

Danger: High voltage! Red is this season’s hot colour. Sexy, powerful and made to be seen, the megawatt hue will brighten even the dullest winter’s day. Wear it head-to-toe and prepare to light up the national grid.

SHEARLING DELIGHT

Shearling, sheepskin and wooly naps cossetted the autumn winter catwalks. From snug motorcyle jackets and capacious coats to furry collars and trims, the memo is clear: hirsute yourself.

THAT 70S SHOW

It’s the decade that keeps on giving and with good reason. What other decade serves up glittering disco, folky bohemia, psychedelia and super fly street style in one fell swoop? Exactly!

VELVET UNDERGROUND

Fashion’s smooth operator is back and giving us all the feels! Think plush dresses, crushed trousers and richly decadent suits on which to pin a season of sartorial satisfaction.

VINTAGE FLORALS

Wallpaper and tapestry prints reinvent the floral game for the cooler months. Quirky and eclectic, the new bouquet is more interesting than coquettish and a sure-fire conversation starter.
