Get the kids kitted out for the new term, says Annmarie O'Connor.
Trend of the week: Transseasonal separates for kids

Ah, the Irish conundrum! The moment school starts, summer makes a long overdue cameo – albeit brief.

That said, transseasonal separates, that over lovely layering nous, are all that's needed to navigate the mercurial mercury dip.

This season's fashion favourites? Cordurouy dungaree dresses, lurex knits and embroidered bomber jackets all make the grade in woodland shades like pumpkin, rust and sage.

Pair with boots and a scintilla of 70s bohemia (think long-sleeve smock tops and ditsy florals) and your smallies are good to go.

Keep those tights at the ready ...

STYLE HACKS

IN STITCHES: Embroidery is having a fashion moment and makes a fresh alternative to beading and sparkles, especially across durable fabrics like denim and wools.

WOODLAND CREATURES: Animal motifs get their style stripes this season in prints, badges and quirky motifs. We love Zara's velvet cat satchel – the purr-fect accompaniment to the school term.

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY: Embrace the 'grand soft days' with waterproof jackets and ponchos in punchy prints. Bonus points for detachable hoods should the sun decide to play peek-a-boo!

DO DETAILS: Summer's boho buzz continues into autumn with decorative fringe and pom poms adding playful accents to clothing and accessories.
