You won’t need fifty shades of everything to achieve Dakota Johnson’s make-up look, discovers Rachel-Marie Walsh.

Get Dakota Johnson’s simple, gypsy-inspired, glam rock make-up look

Dakota Johnson’s makeup artist Pati Dubroff gave the actress a “gypsy-inspired, with a touch of glam rock” look for the New York premiere How To Be Single.

Pati Dubroff let the silvery, gold-sequinned stars on Johnson’s Saint Laurent gown inspire her beautiful makeup look.

She made the eyes her central focus, planning a “flash of silver metallic and glitter on the centre of the lid, surrounded by a matte, camel tone to give the eyes a smoky shape”.

The cheeks were slightly flushed with a lot of highlight on the tops of cheekbones to make the skin really radiant.

Skin:

To perfect the skin, the artist brushed Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation in Dune, €49, outwards from the centre of Dakota’s face.

Next, she applied Vita Liberata Body Blur in Fair on the high bones of the face, focusing on the tops of the cheekbones.

This highlighting lotion is not currently available in Ireland but Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone, €45 at SpaceNK and www.cultbeauty.co.uk , is similar.

Cheeks:

Dubroff swirled a touch of Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Praline, €30, over the apples of the cheeks.

She then dusted a light coat of Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder, €42, all over Dakota’s face to set and prolong the wear of her makeup.

She warmed the cheeks with Vita Liberata Self Tan Bronzing Minerals in ‘Sunkissed,’ €39.95, but no Kardashi-cheeks here.

“I used the bronzer as a very sheer, healthy hint of warmth, focusing on the area the sun would touch and creating a slight contour.”

Eyes:

To achieve a glittery eye, Dubroff used Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in ‘Café Au Lait,’ €27, to create contour on the crease and the under eye area.

She shared, “This tone is harmonious with the dress and gives contour to the eyes, but is not a hard or harsh shade.”

She then applied a swipe of Diorshow Fusion Mono Cream Shadow in ‘Etoile,’ €33.50, across the centre of the lids and topped with Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Midnight Cowboy, €18, which really “gave the eye a pop”.

She added a couple coats of Laura Mercier Extra Lash Sculpting Mascara in ‘Black Onyx,’ €27.

Lips:

Dubroff kept the lips very simple to avoid distracting from Dakota’s eyes. She first applied Laura Mercier Infusion De Rose Lip Balm, €27, to hydrate and plump her lips.

Then she used Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in ‘Hazelnut Tea,’ €24, all over them for definition and enduring colour.

For the final touch of glamour, she brushed Laura Mercier Sheer Lip Colour in ‘Nude Lips,’ €24, on top.
