Getting Kate Bosworth's Golden Globe Awards look

Kate Bosworth’s long-time makeup artist Pati Dubroff created a gorgeous look to complement the star’s heavily-sequinned Dolce & Gabbana gown for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards.

Dubroff says she “thought of fireworks, disco balls and icy landscapes,” when she saw the design, which served as the inspiration for Bosworth’s beauty look. Her stunning makeup involves peachy cheeks, dusty rose lips, and subtle sateen shades on the eyes.

Bosworth maintains her flawless complexion with products by Japanese skincare brand SK-II, available via

Before hitting the red carpet, she cleanses with SK-II Facial Treatment Cleanser, €51, a rose-scented foaming cream. Then she applies an SK-II Facial Treatment Mask, €100 for 10, a single-use cotton mask infused with plant-based anti-ageing ingredients. She leaves one on for 20 minutes, after first refrigerating it so it better calms any inflammation. She then pats SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, €75, across her face, neck, and décolletage with her fingertips to brighten skin and tighten pores. She also takes a daily dose of Evening Primrose oil to clarify her complexion, and Omega 3 gel capsules for elasticity.

  • First, Dubroff applied Laura Mercier Foundation Primer — Oil Free — €41, to keep Bosworth’s gorgeous makeup lasting all night.

  • To create a velvety luminous glow, Dubroff applied Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation in Vanilla, €48. This moisturising, vitamin-rich makeup is new for 2016 and arrives on counters in February.
  • To accent Bosworth’s gorgeous cheekbones, Dubroff use a swirl of Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Oleander, €30, on the apples of her cheeks for contrast. The pretty pale shade gives porcelain skin a beautiful flush.

  • To softly define the eye, Dubroff blended Laura Mercier Sateen Eye Colour in Sable, €27, into the socket line with a tapered brush. She extended the colour slightly above each crescent to create a wide-awake look.
  • On the lid, Dubroff applied Laura Mercier Sateen Eye Colour in Sandstone, €27, to add a peachy-pink colour. She finished Bosworth’s eyes with a flash of white ice: Dior DiorShow Fusion Mono Longwear Eyeshadow in Luna, €33.50, to the inner corners.
  • Dubroff swept Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara in Black, €27, through the star’s lashes, and then defined her brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Taupe, €18.10 at

  • To complete the look, Dubroff brushed on Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in Coquette, €30, as a lip base.
  • She then dabbed on Laura Mercier Lip Parfait Colourbalm in Raspberry Ripple, €27, at the centre to create a fuller appearance.

I’ve stuck to a my January detox resolution to “eat clean” so far, but how can I detox my skin?

Your skin, like the rest of your body, does not build up toxins in a manner it can’t shed naturally. There have been several serum launches by luxury beauty brands of late that promise to detox the skin, which can be confusing. They are not bad products per se, simply pricey blends of oils, antioxidants and silicones.

In general, there is no need to worry about detoxing your skin, especially if you already use a good make-up remover and a gentle, alcohol-free cleanser that suits your skin type. If you are acne-prone, seek out a salicylic acid lotion for weekly exfoliation. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that can cleanse right inside the pore lining.

A comedone extractor, applied very carefully, can further assist in the removal of spots and blackheads. A benzoyl peroxide lotion like La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, €17.99, afterwards to reduce inflammation and kill acne-causing bacteria.

Dull skin should be improved by your new healthy eating regime and lots of sleep. If you have a normal or dry complexion an alpha hydroxy acid exfoliant like Olay Regenerist Night Renewal Elixir, €39.92, can also make it look brighter and more even-toned. It is extremely important to use a broad-spectrum SPF after exfoliation.

What should I wear on my dry skin while I run in the mornings?

Most tinted moisturisers have broad-spectrum SPF, but the most desirable options are those that pair that protection with effective quantities of nourishing ingredients. Estée Lauder Crescent White Full Circle Brightening BB Cream and Brightening Balm SPF50, €54, is rich in proven antioxidants and reparative plant extracts. Fans of EL serums and moisturisers know the brand does not skimp on emollients, and this product is no exception.

The “Crescent White” of the title refers to the illuminating impact that strong sun protection and ingredients like Vitamin C and liquorice root have on UV-damaged skin.

For immediate brightening, the lotion-textured formula has a peachy tint that neutralises redness, as well as champagne pigments that counteract dullness. The glow is considerable, so this is make-up that best suits normal to dry skin.

A small amount of fragrance makes the formula unsuitable for very sensitive skin, though the ingredients list is alcohol-free.
