Trend of the week: Floral prints

INSPIRATION

Wallpaper, floral prints, tapestry – oh, my! You’d be forgiven for thinking this season’s catwalk fare was designed in a mid-century sitting room, were it not for the oh-so-modern execution.

Dries Van Noten pairing jacquards with humble khakis, Tory Burch giving Moroccan rug patterns an Upper East Side twist, not to mention Erdem’s heirloom interpretation.

Trust me, you’ll never look at a sofa in the same way again...

BALANCE: Modify the more-is-more approach with simple separates – a cashmere sweater with an embellished skirt; an off-duty trouser with a brocade coat.

LAYERING: Maximalism your thing? Keep contrasting prints or textures within the same colour family for a fuss-free effect.

ACCENTS: Not a head-to-toe kind of gal? A hint or suggestion of print or texture swaps banner-waving for a more demure nod.

FABRIC: Pin your colours to the proverbial texture mast. Like suede? Add some faux fur. Prefer velvet? Pair that with brocade. Find your favourite and give him a bestie!
