Product watch: new-season collections

Smashbox Santigold Collection

US reggae-fusion singer Santigold has collaborated with Smashbox on a vibrant new line. The multi-talented star is also a collage artist and two Eye Shadow Collage Palettes, €32 each, are inspired by her work. Colours in each five-shadow palette range from earthy browns and grass greens to seaside sand, aqua and coral. Smashbox’s Double-Ended Limitless Liner, €19, is available in a beautiful azurite blue and soft gold or bright yellow and mint green. The Be Legendary Lipstick Ring, €45, is an especially fun piece. The golden pyramid detail contains a sheer coral lippy.

Chanel Les Beiges 2014

Last year, Chanel set out its “healthy glow manifesto“: a commitment to natural-look bronzers you can wear all year. This season’s offering includes “glow-tion” and a multi-tone powder. Les Beiges All-in-One Healthy Glow Fluid SPF15, €40, is an illuminator. Available in six golden shades, it is designed to highlight wherever the sun hits your skin. Light-diffusing pigments blur imperfections. The Healthy Glow Multi-Colour Powder SPF15, €52, boasts graduated stripes of bronze that can be blended to suit your complexion.

YSL Beauté Summer Look 2014

“I wanted to explore the endless possibilities of blue,” says creative director Lloyd Simmonds of the new YSL Beauté collection. “It is a very Saint Laurent colour that captures light and enhances the warm shades of summer.” The new Bleus Lumière Couture Palette, €49.50, contains five shades (three aquatic blues, pink and coral). Dessin du Regard Waterproof Eyeliner, €21, in icy-blue Bleu Lumière or the deeper Bleu Egee, complements it perfectly. Get an oceanic manicure with La Laque Couture, €24, in vibrant Bleu Celadon and dark Bleu Cyclades.

Lancôme Hypnôse Naturals Collection

Lancôme celebrates a decade of Hypnôse eye make-up with a line of summery neutrals. Three Hypnôse Palettes, €48 each, are available in matte shades of taupe, grey and brown. As per Hypnôse technology, each shadow’s pigments are dispersed within a fluid that deposits an even concentrate of colour before evaporating. La Base Paupières Pro, €23, is an illuminating primer that gives eye shadow 16-hour hold. Le Sourcils Pro, €21.50, is a handy brow crayon with an additional nude nib to highlight arches.

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo, €31

“Women are afraid of wearing bright colours because they haven’t found them in the right texture,” says Giorgio Armani international artist Linda Cantello. Eyes to Kill Solo shadows remedy this with their sophisticated formulas. All 24 shades are inspired by nature and come in the texture that best displays their pigments. The mineral-like mattes contain long-wearing, ultra-fine powders. Vivids have “chromomorphic pearlisers” that evoke the colours of vipers and scorpions. Satins create a creamy, more pearlised shadow. They take their colours from the catwalk, accessorising the design house’s palette of nude, gun-metal and plum.

Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, €62

A whiff of summery perfume can take you right back to a holiday romance or fabulous location. Guerlain has composed an appropriate option in Terracotta. Perfumier Thierry Wasser describes his scent as “the allure of the sun in a bottle”. The composition includes accords of bergamot, coconut and Tahitian gardenia. A heart of white florals including jasmine, ylang-ylang and orange blossom overlays a sultry musk and vanilla base.

HOW TO... LOOK NATURALLY SUN-KISSED

1. Apply a foundation/BB Cream and concealer that match your skin colour perfectly. Using a warmer shade to appear bronzed never looks natural and can age you.

2. Pressed-powder bronzers are the easiest to apply. For natural results, choose one without shimmer or glitter.

If you are naturally fair, choose a beige or honey-toned bronzer, such as M&S Limited Collection Bronzer in Light, €7. Coppery shades suit olive skin. Test a bronzer on your jawline before you buy. If it looks golden, you’re on to a winner. More brown? Put it down!

3. Swirl a large powder brush over the powder. Tap or blow on it to remove excess. Sweep bronzer where sunlight would hit your face: forehead, cheekbone, chin and the bridge of your nose.

4. Go over each area with the brush again and again, swirling and buffing to remove any trace of a streak.

5. Bronzer can look quite flat when worn alone, so contrast it with a rosy blush on the apples of your cheeks (smile to see these). Finish the look with pink lipgloss, brown mascara and gold or bronze eye make-up.
