Victoria Beckham’s collection is coming to Cork for the first time, along with a host of other high profile labels, writes Annmarie O’Connor.

NEW YORK, London, Paris, Milan… Cork? Yes, that’s right. As the international style capitals launch Fashion Week season, Leeside celebrates its own catwalk coup with the launch of Brown Thomas’ new designer collections. Style icon Victoria Beckham’s eponymous sister line, Victoria, Victoria Beckham, joins the Cork store alongside a host of high-profile labels including Roksanda Ilincic, Mary Katrantzou, Alice + Olivia, Acne, Carven, Helmut Lang and Étoile Isabel Marant.

“It’s a new direction for the store,” says Brown Thomas fashion director Shelly Corkery, who introduced these namesto-know at the request of local style savants.

Meanwhile, Brown Thomas has just announced that JWAnderson for Top Shop will be stocked in the Cork store for a limited period from Monday Sep 18.

MARY KATRANTZOU

Mary Katrantzou’s artistic trompe l’oeil technique has singled her out as one of fashion’s elite talents. Her dazzling 3-D dresses are utterly wish list-worthy, in particular this season’s kaleidoscope interior and garden print shifts.

ALICE + OLIVIA

Party girls will love New York label Alice + Olivia’s playful and eclectic charm. This season’s must-haves?

CARVEN

The characteristic whimsy of Victoria Beck-ham’s sister line shines through in signature drop waists, feminine plissés and abbreviated hems. Those quirky conversational prints from last season appear again, albeit tempered with grown-up fabrics and longer lengths.

HELMUT LANG

Minimalist kingpin Helmut Lang makes for pared-back glamour with fitted leather jackets, biker-inspired leggings and second-skin jersey dresses. Combine the label’s sharp tailoring with gentle draping and asymmetric hems for an elegant edge.

ACNE

Swedish label Acne has rapidly become the IT girl’s style staple thanks to its capsule offering of leather jackets, ankle boots and fit-you-forever jeans. Deceptively simple, the brand’s nous is all down to its laissez-faire layering.
