Olivia Rodrigo’s inaugural all-women festival raises nearly $20 million

The proceeds from the festival will be donated to charities advancing and advocating for women and girls.

US popstar Olivia Rodrigo’s inaugural all-women festival has raised nearly $20 million.

The Driver’s License singer, 23, was behind the fundraising event Daisy Chain Fields festival – which featured a star-studded line-up including Chappell Roan, Doechii, Rachel Chinouriri and Stevie Nicks.

The proceeds from the festival – which took place on Saturday in Irvine, California – will be donated to charities advancing and advocating for women and girls.

Before her set, Rodrigo revealed the festival fund – which had raised $10 million – was to be doubled by a donation from US philanthropist Melinda French Gates.

She said: “(There are) 45,000 people at this festival tonight, can you believe it?

“I really believe that giving women the tools to decide their own futures and live healthy lives free of violence and discrimination is the most effective tool we have at changing the world for the better.”

She went on to describe Ms Gates as “one of the most inspiring women I’ve ever met” for devoting her life to empowering women and girls.

Rodrigo added: “She’s generous and brave and has done so much good in this world. And I’m totally floored because as well as being in attendance here tonight she’s pledged to double every dollar that’ll be made here today – bringing the grand total of funds been donated to $20 million.

“I’m so grateful.”

During her set, Rodrigo performed a number of tracks from her latest album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love – including Stupid Song and Maggots For Brains.

She also debuted her new single Serena Joy, which was released days ago with a portion of all net proceeds going to the Daisy Chain Fields fund.

During her headline set, Rodrigo brought out Alanis Morissette for a rendition of her 1996 song Ironic before performing a duet with Fleetwood Mac star Nicks, singing her 1975 song Landslide.

Rodrigo also brought out Sarah McLachlan and performed her 1997 song Angel in honour of the late country superstar Dolly Parton, who died earlier this week aged 80.

Rodrigo – known for the songs Deja Vu, Vampire and Good 4 U – released her debut album Sour in 2021 which won the best pop vocal album and best new artist Grammy in 2022.

Two years later, she released her second chart-topping album Guts, which included the songs So American, Obsessed and Bad Idea Right.

Daisy Chain Fields festival comes a little over a year after she headlined Glastonbury Festival’s Pyramid stage.
