Louis Walsh has decided who will represent Ireland at the Eurovision

Louis Walsh was on the Late Late Show last night and he revealed who he is taking to next year's Eurovision.

The X Factor judge, who took control of Ireland’s Eurovision entry for 2017 has turned to one of his boyband members.

Brendan Murray from Hometown, who announced their split last week, will be Ireland's representative in Kiev in May.

Louis told the Late Late Show: "Brendan is perfect for Eurovision, he has a distinctive voice and a look that I think will really appeal to audiences across Europe."

Brendan showed his Eurovision credentials by singing Johnny Logan's Eurovision winning classic "Hold Me Now".

However, Louis is still looking for a song for the Galway singer to perform.

He will be joined by a panel appointed by RTÉ to choose the song which will be performed by Brendan on The Late Late Show early next year.

Louis said: "I want to find the best song for Brendan to perform on that Eurovision stage. I’m going to use my own contacts in the business and I want to hear songs from Irish songwriters or songwriters abroad until I find the best song.

"I won’t rest until I do."
