President Michael D. Higgins is hosting an event to promote women's rights and equality today and invited Hozier along to perform his new single Cherry Wine.

The UN Women HeForShe event, supported by SAFE Ireland - the national organization of domestic violence service - celebrates the powerful role of men in promoting and supporting equality for women.

Hozier’s single Cherry Wine and its video, starring Saoirse Ronan, explores the issue of domestic violence.

Before the Wicklow native performed, he explained that the song was written from a male perspective in an abusive relationship.

The 25-year-old recently finished his European tour after 200 shows and is intended to take a break from the business for a while to write his next album.
