Eagles tribute postponed due to Glenn Frey's health

The Eagles have postponed their Kennedy Centre tribute because of co-founder Glenn Frey’s health issues.

The Washington-based Centre announced on Wednesday that the band will not participate in a ceremony on December 6 which will also honour Carole King and George Lucas among others.

Frey, who turns 67 on Friday, has long suffered from intestinal problems, which he has blamed on his drug use during the band’s early years, and is expected to undergo surgery.

He sang lead on the Eagles’ first hit, Take It Easy, and on such favourites as New Kid In Town and Already Gone.

The Kennedy Centreplans to honour the Eagles in 2016.

Frey and Don Henley are the remaining original members of the band, which now also includes Joe Walsh and Timothy B Schmit.
