47,000 music fans on way to Electric Picnic

One of Ireland's biggest music festivals kicks off later as the Electric Picnic gets underway in Stradbally, Co Laois.

Some 47,000 fans will make their way to the sold-out event.

Some of the musical highlights of the weekend will be Blur, Sam Smith and Florence and the Machine, who all headline the main stage.

There's plenty more on offer at the Picnic though. Martin Hickey is the creator of Trenchtown, and says the party will go on into the night.

"We're about the size of three football picthes. We started with a barbeque and we've just grown every year," he said.

"We have a live stage and over 300 artists this year from starting with 12 nine years ago.

"We're close to the campsite - that's why we have a silent cinema and a silent disco nearest the campsite."
