Louis Tomlinson’s ex-girlfriend went to great lengths to save their relationship.

Eleanor Calder is said to have visited the One Direction singer in Sydney, Australia - a 10,500-mile flight from London - where the group performed on their 'On the Road Again' tour in February, but the 23-year-old hunk's schedule is said to have put a "real strain" on their four-year romance.

“Cracks were showing for a while. It’s incredibly tough with the boys being on the road so much,” a source said.

"They had a month off over Christmas but since then they have been in Australia and the Far East. It put a real strain on the relationship.

“But even after Eleanor flew out to visit Louis, they couldn’t work through their differences."

The boy band have since travelled to Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines - where they performed last night - and despite her visit Down Under, Louis and Eleanor later decided to go their separate ways "weeks later".

"Weeks later, when they were on opposite sides of the world again, they called it a day,” the source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper.

Earlier this month, Louis was spotted kissing a woman during the group's short stint in Thailand - where they performed in Bangkok on March 14 - but it has since been revealed that he had split form Eleanor, 22, "weeks ago".

"Louis and Eleanor split up two weeks ago. They have not announced this as they wanted some privacy during this time," a spokesperson said yesterday.

The 22-year-old star was signed off with "stress" following the incident, but his relationship with 21-year-old beauty Perrie is said to be "fine" after he spent five hours speaking to her at their home in Barnet, North London, on Friday.

"[The relationship is] fine. They both still live there," a source said.
