Celebrities pay tribute to the 'gentleman of fashion'

Celebrities all over the world have been paying their respects to fashion designer to the stars Oscar de la Renta, who died yesterday aged 82 at his Connecticut home.

Taylor Swift has led the tributes by posted this picture to her Instagram of her wearing one of his creations for the Costume Institute Gala in New York eariler this year.

She captioned the picture with: "My all-time favorite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honor to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory"

At the event in May, she said: "Oscar de la Renta is the designer I've idolised since I was a little girl.

"Having an opportunity to wear a one-of-kind gown designed by him is a daydream realised."

Taylor's good friend Karlie Kloss also paid tribute to the designer on her Instagram account, praising him for inspiring her in life and helping her to become who she is today.

In a message attached to a picture of the designer, she wrote: "The world lost one of the most extraordinary people that I have ever met. Thank you for helping me become the woman I am today and for always inspiring me to be better. There simply is no one else like you."

Several other stars have also paid tribute to Oscar, including supermodel Naomi Campbell, who described him as a "gentleman of fashion".

"The Gentleman of Fashion you will always be !!! R I P@oscarprgirl @OscarPRGirl #Oscar de la Renta (sic)," she wrote.

“You made this a dream come a True !! R I P TheGentlemanofFashion #Oscar de la Renta,” she added in another post.

Jennifer Lopez posted two pictures of her and the star, adding the captions:

“Me and the legendary Oscar DeLaRenta... Rest in peace...You will be missed.”

“Oscar De La RENTA. My prayers go out to your family. #rip #fashionlegend”

Cindy Crawford posted this ad campaign photo on her account with the caption “Isn’t it about time you got an Oscar?” and added that “[his] vision and talent will be missed.”

Oscar's cause of death is not yet known but he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006.

The legendary designer created garments for an array of First Ladies, including Jackie Kennedy, Hilary Clinton and Michelle Obama.

A joint statement from the Clinton family said: “His singular talent and exquisite taste elevated American fashion, and his warmth and friendship will be missed by our family and all whose lives he touched in his extraordinary journey.

“We will always be grateful to Oscar for the love he showed us, and for sharing his talent on some of the most important occasions of our lives.”

He also designed a number of gowns for big stars, including Amal Clooney's wedding dress for her and George Clooney's wedding on September 27.
