'Two megastars' promised as MTV comes to Cork
Cork City Hall is to host a major MTV event later this year, it has been confirmed.
MTV Crashes Cork will be staged in collaboration with Cork City Council in December and will feature “two megastars”, according to the press release, to be announced soon.
The event will be broadcast across MTV’s flagship UK music TV channels, MTV MUSIC and MTV LIVE HD, and subsequently across its portfolio of music channels.
Tickets are limited to just 800, and will be available for free, via a “competition metric”.
There will also be 200 VIPs in attendance, including “the best of Irish in Hollywood”.
Kerry Taylor, Senior Vice President, General Manager, MTV UK comments: “Ireland has an amazing musical heritage, and Cork as its second largest city, is a perfect destination for MTV to ‘crash’. We’re really looking forward to working with the local partners to stage a fantastic live music event as well as showcasing what the city has to offer to our youth audience.”
Speaking today from Cork City Council, Valerie O'Sullivan, Director of Corporate Services & External Affairs, stated: "This is a fantastic day for Cork. We are thrilled to host MTV in Cork City later this year. Staging a premium music and media event like this in Cork creates a huge draw to the city, potentially delivering a fantastic economic stimulus and a hugely positive sentiment amongst the younger demographic.
“This event is made possible by our partnership with Cork County Council”
Robert Quirke, CEO of Action Media stated: "It is a proud day not only for Cork, but also for Ireland as whole. The two primary goals for Cork by partnering with MTV are to promote Cork City on a European and Global scale as a primary tourism destination; and secondly to energise the younger demographic within Cork.
“MTV has a long history of partnering with tourism organisations and local authorities to stage major live music events to showcase cities as destinations to music lovers across the globe."
MTV Crashes Cork will follow the MTV Crashes Plymouth event which took place in July and the MTV Crashes Derry – Londonderry show which took place last week.
Previous Crashes destinations also include Glasgow, Belfast and Manchester.
Liz Meaney, Cork City Arts Officer commented: "Cork City has a fantastic heritage and legacy with music. This partnership with MTV elevates our status even further onto the global stage. This relationship is part of a wider long term strategy for Cork, through which our strength in music will be showcased. Further projects include obtaining a Unesco City of Music status, driving consistent tourism directly into Cork City Centre."
Further details of MTV Crashes Cork, including event date, artists confirmed to perform, ticketing and event specifics announcements will follow.
