Predictions that came true in 2016

2016 may have brought a lot of surprises with it but many of the oddities of the year have actually been predicted before.

Predictions that came true in 2016

Way back in 2000 The Simpsons predicted Donald Trump's election as President of the United States in the episode Bart to the Future. Whether or not the budget crisis President Lisa Simpson mentions having to deal with in in lieu of the outgoing Trump administration will become a reality has yet to be seen.

In 1898 Nikola Tesla developed remote control and pitched its usefulness in guiding vehicles to carry objects, including packages and provisions. Drone delivery services may be a more commonplace part of the future but today, while possible, have yet to be legislated for.

A man residing in Melbourne, Australia, is facing a fine of $AUS9,000 after he posted a video on YouTube, which was shot from his drone and showed him piloting it from his home, over a busy motorway before descending to collect the cooked sausage from a barbecue at a hardware store. The fine is as a result of Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority's concerns that flight rules, which ban drones from entering populous areas or flying within 30 metres of people, were breached.

Another piece of tech to join the mainstream this year has been virtual reality. In 1935 a short story by Stanley G. Weinbaum mentioned the idea of goggles that allow the wearer to experience a world of fiction through holographics.
