Steven Gerrard lifts the league title - for Everton!

Tributes have been flying in for Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard after he announced the end of his association with hometown club Liverpool when the current season ends.

Steven Gerrard lifts the league title - for Everton!

However, one glaring omission from a trophy list that includes two FA Cups, three League Cups, the Uefa cup and the Champions League is the coveted Premier League prize.

Unless Brendan Rodgers' struggling Liverpool stage an amazing run between now and the end of the season it's unlikely Gerrard will ever get to lift the trophy in-front of his adoring fans.

Liverpool have not won the league since 1990 and their most famous number eight only made his debut in 1998.

He has, though, had his hands on the the league trophy before and he didn't even have to travel down the East Lancs road to rivals Manchester United's ground to admire the silverware.

In-fact, Gerrard only had to make the short trip across Stanley Park to Goodison in 1987 after Everton had won the Division One title ahead of - believe it or not - Liverpool!

He even donned the Everton kit for the occasion and had his picture taken with the old league trophy.

Maybe that's where John Terry got the idea!

In fairness to Stevie G, he was only seven-years-old and was brought by his uncle Leslie, a massive blue.

Upon seeing the photograph, his Dad, a red, wasn't too happy.

Maybe he won't mind too much now, though.
