Traitors Ireland episode six recap: Can a new Traitor and a shock Faithful exit shake up this season?
Will Carla's latest recruit survive a bit longer?
Fifth roundtable, four Traitors out.
“It would take another 400 seasons for that to happen again,” Séan C chirps, after doing some quick maths on his slate.
This is the level of confidence and mental freedom this group of Faithfuls have. They’re literally doing maths on their slates at roundtables.
“Who we getting tomorrow, lads?” he exclaims, his head jerking over to Carla.
Yes, that’s right. Carla chose Aoife as her scapegoat, and Aoife promptly threw her right under the bus in return.
But let’s go back a bit.
On Monday night’s episode, Carla gave Aoife a choice: be murdered now, or become a Traitor.
“I just have to get through tomorrow’s roundtable,” Aoife said.
We don’t think she, Carla or the Wolfhounds think she has a chance in hell of that. But sure, look. At least she gets to murder someone.
She picks Denis. His partner Diego plays it cool at breakfast, while Denis is crying to camera.
“I am happy that I went first, because this is how I’d have been if he went,” he laughs.
We suppose running through wooded areas is generally hazardous, but we don’t think the production team could have imagined just hazardous it would prove to be.
On Tuesday’s mission, Carla hurts her leg, Anna is out on medical advice after popping her hip while running in Monday’s mission, and Gráinne twists her ankle, resulting in her leaving altogether.
In an attempt to add an extra bit of spice, Siobhán later reveals to the players that Gráinne’s status — Faithful or Traitor — will not be revealed until the game is over.
But that’s not the only drama.
While adding €2,900 out of a possible €3,000 to the prize pot — go team! — DJ finds a shield.
On the advice of fellow team member Pete, the team, also made up of Kayleigh and Dónal, decide not to tell the others who got the shield, thus protecting all four of them from murder.
“Kayleigh has a big pocket, give it to her,” Pete directs a reluctant DJ.
“She won’t give it back to me,” he whines. “She will,” Pete insists.
Unfortunately, giving it back isn’t really the issue...
The issue is that, after telling everyone else they weren’t revealing who got the shield, Kayleigh then pulls it out of her pocket in a room with half the remaining players, including Séan C, Pauric O and Sam.
Donal drops his head into his hands.
Meanwhile, dad David is happy about not being informed who got the shield.
This immediately, and quite logically, raises suspicions among his fellow Faithfuls. Only a Traitor would need to know who got the shield... and with the Faithfuls believing Aoife is the remaining OG Traitor, their sights are now set on who might have been recruited to keep the game going as their numbers rapidly deplete.
Now, back to Aoife and her parting gift to the Faithfuls.
Yes, the Faithfuls turned on her almost from the start, but she quite rightly has no loyalty to the Traitor who recruited her with the express intention of immediately throwing her under the bus.
So she decides to do the same.
“I raised my suspicions in the car with Janet,” Aoife tells Tuesday night’s roundtable.
Earlier that day, she had indeed told Janet she suspected a Traitor might be setting her up. She didn’t know who, but suspected it was a fellow female. Perhaps Kayleigh or... Carla.
“This might be a shot in the dark,” she states, before revealing the name on her board: Carla.
When she stands at the top of the room, she gives the Faithfuls another nugget, if they are listening.
“I want to touch on last night. I put on something a little bit cosier...” The room erupts as she reveals her Traitor status.
But will they pick up on the hint that she was in fact only recruited the night prior — and that the real mastermind is still at large? And if they do catch Carla, can her latest recruit actually make this show interesting again?
We'll have to wait until Sunday night to find out.
