'A historic day for the women of Ireland': Killarney celebrates Jessie Buckley's Oscar win

History made.. Killarney native Jessie Buckley become the first Irish woman to win Best Actress at the Academy Awards in Hollywood for her role in Hamnet on Monday morning. Celebrations took place in the Arbutus Hotel at a private gathering hosted by the Buckley family in Killarney. Born and raised in Killarney, Jessie Buckley’s journey from local productions to the global stage is something the town has followed with pride.

Her early years were filled with music, creativity and community — her mother Marina was a well-known singer and harpist in the town.
