RTÉ has announced that it will proceed with the broadcast of the new series of Home of the Year and The Great House Revival this year, following the death of Hugh Wallace.

The national broadcaster said on Wednesday that it had received the full support of Wallace’s family to go ahead with the broadcast of both shows.

Filming for the 12th series of Home of the Year was completed before the TV presenter and architect's death in December.

Wallace was a judge on the programme since its inception, and was known for his warmth and humour, which captured the hearts of viewers nationwide.

The Great House Revival will also air this spring and will honour Wallace’s dedication, passion and love for design and architecture.

RTÉ managing editor of video, Seán Mac Giolla Phadráig, said: “Hugh had such an enormous place in the hearts of our audience who loved him dearly. We’re very grateful to his family and colleagues for allowing us to show Hugh in these final series, which showcase his love for architecture and passion for the work he did across both Home of the Year and The Great House Revival. We miss him greatly, Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.”

Wallace passed away suddenly in December, aged 68.

In a statement posted on Wallace's Instagram account, his husband Martin wrote: “It is with deep sadness and shock that I share the news that my beloved husband and soulmate, Hugh Wallace, passed away suddenly at home last night. I am heartbroken. Please respect my privacy at this deeply painful time. Martin.”

Home of the Year and The Great House Revival will both air on RTÉ this spring.
