Five For Your Radar: Hamnet, Jedward, Seven Dials...

Hamnet, featuring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley, is in cinemas from Friday; and right, Industry, starring Myha’la as Harper, is back on BBC One on Sunday.

Cinema: Hamnet

General release, Friday, January 9

Two of Ireland’s finest actors, Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley, come together in this adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell’s novel. The historical drama is directed by Chloe Zhao, last seen helming Marvel’s Eternals (we won’t hold that against her) and previously the Oscar-dominating Nomadland. There’s similar awards buzz for Hamnet, which promises to leave audiences weeping. It follows the marriage of Agnes Hathaway and William Shakespeare, and how the death of their young son Hamnet fractures their lives and quietly gives rise to Hamlet.

TV: Industry

BBC One, Sunday, January 11

Pierpoint is in the rear-view mirror, but Industry hasn’t lost its bite. Season four cuts loose from the trading floor and sends its characters into a slick, high-stakes world of fintech, power plays, and moral freefall. Harper (Myha’la) and Yasmin (Marisa Abela) are finally living the lives they chased, but their twisted friendship begins to warp and ignite under the pressure of money, power, and the desire to be on top.

Book: Esther is Now Following You

Monday, January 12

Journalist and columnist Tanya Sweeney makes a dazzling fiction debut with Esther is Now Following You, a razor-sharp dark comedy about celebrity obsession in the social media age. When lonely Esther locks eyes with Hollywood heartthrob Ted in a London park, a fleeting moment spirals into full-blown fixation — upending her marriage and dragging her into hilarious, cringeworthy chaos.

Known for their boundless energy, cheeky charm, and pop bangers like Waterline and Luminous, expect non-stop hits, gravity-defying hair, crowd-pleasing covers, and that signature Jedward chaos. A night of pure, unfiltered fun awaits!
