Barry Manilow will have surgery for cancerous spot on lung

Singer Barry Manilow has revealed he has a cancerous spot on his lung and will undergo surgery.

The musician, best known for hits including Copacabana, Mandy and Looks Like We Made It, said he is lucky he was diagnosed very early.

In a statement on Instagram, he said: “As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.

“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”

He continued: “The bad news is that now that the Christmas Gift Of Love concerts are over I’m going into surgery to have the spot removed.

“The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

Manilow added he will need to spend a month recovering and will reschedule a string of arena concerts in January.

He was supposed to embark on a tour of US cities including Orlando, Tampa, Charleston, Greensboro and Columbus.

He said he is “counting down the days” until his concerts on Valentine’s weekend in February and throughout 2026 at the Westgate Las Vegas.

Manilow also issued a warning to fans, saying: “Remember, if you have even the slightest symptom…get tested!”
